Fuzzi Bunz Diapers vs. Disposables

So you may be thinking - "This seems expensive. Will Fuzzi Bunz diapers really save me money?"  This is a valid question, so let's see if we can answer it.

  • Baby wears diapers for 2 1/2 years and pull-ups for 6 months while potty training.  (Many toddlers don't potty train until at least 3 years old. Some research suggests not even starting to potty train until age 3).

For about 6 weeks your newborn is going to need about 10-12 diaper changes per day.  Your size 1 disposables will likely cost a minimum of $ .14 each.

11 diapers avg./day x 7 days x 6 weeks = 462 diapers x $.14 = $64.68

For the next 3 months, your baby will probably need about 8-10 diaper changes per day.  Your size 2 disposables will likely cost a minimum of $.16 each.

9 diapers avg./day x 7 days x 12 weeks = 756 diapers x $.16 = $120.96

Your baby will probably move on to size 3 about this time and stay there for approximately 9 months.  During this time, they need about 7 diapers per day.  Size 3 disposables will likely cost a minimum of $.18 each.

7 diapers avg./day x 7 days x 36 weeks = 1764 diapers x $.18 = $317.52

Your baby will now need about 6 diapers per day for about 12 months in size 4.  Your size 4 disposables will likely cost a minimum of $.24 each.

6 diapers/day x 7 days x 52 weeks = 2184 diapers x $.24 = $524.16

Unfortunately, baby is now about ready for size 5 diapers, raising the cost per diaper to a minimum of $.27 each.  They still need about 6 changes per day for about 6 more months.

6 diapers/day x 7 days x 25 weeks = 1050 diapers x $.27 = $283.50

Now, let the potty training begin!  The cost of pull-ups is about $.42 - .46 each. (Ugh...) So, let's go with an off-brand, you'll still likely spend at least $.31 each .  You'll go through about 5 per day.

5 pairs of training pants/day x 7 days x 25 weeks = 875 pairs of training pants x $.31 = $271.25

Potty training is now finished at 3 years of age! Congratulations! But.... we forgot to add wipes for the 6216 diapers (not counting training pants)!  If you only use one store-brand $6 package per month (160 wipes) they will end up costing you $216!

$6 x 36 months = $216

Your total store-brand disposable cost:  $1,798.07! (Before taxes)

Your total Huggies disposable cost:  $2,163.93! (Before taxes)

Your total Pampers disposable cost:  $2,289.59! (Before taxes)

I'm using my personal experience for this cost estimate.  I wash diapers about every other day.  Obviously, if you wish to do laundry less often, you will need to buy more diapers.  Also, newborns will probably go through a few more diapers than older babies.  To offset this, you can wash more often, or buy a few extra small diapers.

  • 3 Fuzzi Bunz Packages of 12 Diapers (12 each size - S,M,L) + FREE inserts = $594

  • 12 Mother of Eden wipes = $15.90

  • 8 Trickle Free Trainers = $140

  • 2 Overnight Undies = $48

  • Additional laundry costs = $200

Your total cloth cost:  $997.90! (Taxes are paid by Itty Bitty Baby Bunz, LLC when *)

Other things to consider:

  • When you're done with your Fuzzi Bunz diapers, you can re-sell them on Ebay and get some of that money back (ask me about this)!  Or, you can give them to a friend who I'm sure would really appreciate them.  NOTE: I doubt your friend would be very appreciative of your disposables!

  • Disposable diapers have chemicals in them that many babies react to, making diaper rash occur more often.  One of my babies had a constant rash (including open wounds) for over a year.  We had numerous doctor visits and tried all kinds of prescriptions and creams.  It went away after one week in Fuzzi Bunz diapers!  We spent a lot of money on those visits and treatments and it broke my heart to see my baby in so much pain!

  • For each baby you diaper with disposables, you are responsible for approximately 6000 diapers going to our landfills!  These have become a major problem for our environment!

  • If you are having a baby shower, sign up for our gift registry and ask your family and friends for diapers and accessories.  Fuzzi Bunz diapers are fun to give as gifts because they are so practical and come in so many fun colors!
