Washing Happy Heinys
Happy Heinys are made with convenient,
fold-over tabs to prevent "diaper trains" from forming in your washer and dryer. Especially when your
diapers are
new and the
tabs aren't as pliable, there's another way to get your favorite cloth diapers ready for laundering.
Using the fold-over tabs or this
twisting method will help keep your diapers in tip-top shape!
Washing pocket diapers and trainers:
- Gently shake any solids into the toilet - fleece releases solids easily so there is no need for dunking.
- Remove the inserts and store in a dry pail
- Set washer for a cold soak/rinse for 10-20 minutes depending on the level of dirt
- Wash on hot with slightly less than 1/4 cup of detergent
- You can add a downy ball of vinegar to the wash if the diapers have a heavy urine scent. Linda Byerline, the owner of Happy Heinys, recommends a downy ball because it releases the vinegar at the right time - no need to wait by the machine.
- Rinse well to ensure all detergent is removed from diapers.
- Dry on warm. Linda, of Happy Heinys, recommends that "the warmth of the dryer will keep your Happy Heinys functioning like new." Here at Itty Bitty Baby Bunz, we personally dry our PUL products on warm or hang them on the line to dry. We've found that the dryer seems to reseal the PUL around the stitching to keep the diapers waterproof and Linda says it helps the Aplix to contract keeping it fastening firmly. After prolonged use with these products we have not noticed any break down of our PUL from the dryer.
- DO NOT use SANITARY CYCLE. Use of the sanitary cycle can cause melting of elastics, Aplix, snaps and it can make the waterproof layer no longer water proof. Use of sanitary cycle will void all warranties.
